St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Wall Street and The American Poets’ Corner at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine will collaborate in a new poetry series, Verse Visits: World Poets in New York, on Thursday, March 3 with the inaugural reading, “Best Canadian Poetry, The Soul in the Leaf,” at St. Paul’s Chapel at 1 p.m. and again at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine at 7 p.m.

The event is free of cost and the locations are:  St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Wall Street, Broadway at Fulton Street; and Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).

For this inaugural event, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine Poet-in-Residence Emeritus, Molly Peacock, will host acclaimed Canadian poet Lorna Crozier, guest editor of The Best Canadian Poetry 2010, as well as eight poets who appear in the anthology: Maureen Hynes, Sonnet L’Abbe, Fiona Lam, Jim Nason, Rebecca Leah Papucaru, Sue Sinclair, Nick Thran and Carey Toane, to read their works.

The Verse Visits series aims to understand how poets absorb the influence of the culture and world around them and channel it into their work. Meshing the culture of both uptown and downtown, the series invites participants into the cultural festivities of New York and offers audiences the experience of poetry fresh to the city. Additional events throughout the year are in the planning stages. For details on future events, please check stjohndivine.org or trinitywallstreet.org.
